Robot Activities with 3rd Graders - 2017
For six weeks, starting at the beginning of January, 2017, students in the third grade rotated through stations with the various robots available in Orchard School's library. They were placed in two-person teams that would stay together throughout the entire robotics experience. During the first week, students were instructed in how the Tickle app may be used for programming most of the robots (Dash/Dot, Ollie, Sphero, BB8). Week Two had general directions in the functioning of Blue Bots. During these two weeks, students were tasked with exploring how they could control their robots within a defined space, as well as learning about the various capabilities of their robots.
Obstacles were brought in for the remaining weeks. Students were tasked with challenging their robots to navigate tough turns and even ramps and tunnels.
